NeoRouter is a tool that has been designed with the remote access needs of the most common users in mind. It supports Windows Remote Desktop, VNC (virtual network computing) as well as VPN.

Thus, it is one location for varying remote access requirements. Be it file sharing, simple remote access to get tasks done remotely, remote management of computers using administrator privileges, or secure remote access, these can all be done through a single centralized interface in NeoRouter. Although there have been other solutions that have targeted such an approach, there aren’t too many that do quite what NeoRouter does, that is to combine Windows Desktop and VPN to VNC.

It has an attractive feature set. Once installed NeoRouter enables a particular user to login from any computer using his/her profile, because the profile is automatically downloaded to the computer that he/she is logging in from. In fact, NeoRouter need not be installed in the host that you are trying to login from, all one needs to do is to carry a stub program that can be downloaded on to a USB drive, resulting in exceptional portability, especially for users who tend to travel a lot. Yet, security is no concern because of its highly secure remote access environment; which is why one can perform secure tasks such as user account management and access control remotely. Therefore, making it possible for the administrator to also truly telecommute. Other impressive features include a “Remote Wakeup” that enables a user to bring the target computer from standby mode to fully operational mode. It runs as a windows service with a low overhead, and the NeoRouter itself does not limit how many computers / networks a given host connect to at one time (there will be limitations due to the host computer itself, connecting to too many can slow down the host computer performance to almost a standstill, though, in all fairness, in the i7 era this is not a big deal and the limit might the ability for a human user to be able to actively track each and every connection).

Features:

  • Cross-platform: Create a seamless network across Windows, Mac, Linux and devices (supporting OpenWrt, Tomato and FON firmware).
  • Roaming user profile: You can sign in from any computer using the same account and your profile will roam with you.
  • High portability: You can run NeoRouter portable client from a USB drive without installation.
  • Fast connection: NeoRouter can setup direct peer-to-peer (P2P) connection between computers. When direct P2P connection is impossible (e.g. your computer is behind a corporate firewall), NeoRouter relays the network traffic through your own router.
  • Advanced user management and access control: You can create multiple users with different privileges, and grant accesses to a computer or a service individually.
  • Add-ons: Add-ons extend NeoRouter and let you perform additional tasks over the virtual network.
  • Remote wakeup: You can put your computer to standby mode to conserve electricity and NeoRouter can wake up the computer when you actually use it.
  • Run as a windows service: NeoRouter can run as a Windows service enabling you to run NeoRouter no matter who is logged-in into the computer.
  • Unlimited network capacity: There is no limit on how many computers can join the network or how many users can be created.
  • Customization: Personalize the user interface with your native language and favorite skin. NeoRouter supports 34 languages and multiple skin styles.
