LanLight
Was searching for the missing LAN activity Light on Windows 7, Till I game across LanLight. LanLight was written to replace the missing LAN activity lights for Windows 95/98 after upgrading to DSL or Cable with even more functionality.
Windows XP users can use this as a graphical replacement for their network icons.
Anyway I thought I gave It a try, So I installed LanLight on my windows 7. Much to my surprise it seems to be all compatible with windows 7. And as of today I’m using this handy and easy to use software.
Key-features:
- Track throughput on each of your network interfaces
- Graphical representation of data flow in systray
- Tracks max and average send and receive speeds
- Shows total bytes sent through interface
- Graphs realtime bandwidth
- Allows customizable icons in systray
- Loads on Windows Startup
- Trace Route and Ping/Hostname resolve functions
- Gradient XP icons show upload/download speed
- Memory usage shows used physical memory (Great for Windows 98 users with no Task Manager)
Note: Changing Status Icons in Windows 7 is not persistent.
make sure that you run in admin-mode to do this.

Find out your IP address without using ipconfig
You might be asking yourself “How much will I have to pay for all this wonderful functionality?”
The answer: NOTHING! It’s FREEWARE! No spyware, no adware, no pop-ups.
Freeware with no strings attached.
To disable the XP lights click Start, Connect To, Show all connections and right click, properties on my Local Area Connection. On the General Tab, just uncheck the two boxes at the bottom (see image below) and Click Options, Run on Windows Start in LanLights to use it instead
OS Requirements:
Windows 98/XP and as tested on Windows 7

Hi Harry, Thanks for letting me know, Did not have trouble what so ever but I recon that depends if you run in Windows 7 in administrator mode or not. I definitely do run my PC as an administrator that explains that I have no trouble with the persistent-ency in Windows 7.

Strange. I and my wife have identical computers (eMachines EL1352 Windows 7 64-bit). Lanlight works like a dream on mine. Runtime error 35600 shuts Lanlight down on my wife’s computer. The only difference between the two is the internet connection. Mine is cabled from my router, my wife’s is fed by wireless connection (at the moment – I am awaiting delivery of a Homeplug set). Any ideas?

Hello Lee, Sorry to here about your error trouble. It can depends on a lots of things. the only alternative I can give you right now is to try NetAnimate; This software has almost the same concept as LanLight and can be found on http://tipsandtricksforpc.com/2010/09/netanimate/ Please let me know if trouble continues.
